Let’s be honest, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love Bob Ross. He was the master of all things oil painting. He had such a sweet soul, cool and calm voice and a passion for teaching that very few people have ever matched.

As I continue along in my journey to learn how to become better at digital and traditional art I feel like taking any opportunity that is available to learn can make a difference.

Learning from these classes has helped me to loosen up with my painting and design style. I’ve really started to focus on applying the lessons of traditional art and various mediums with how the paint flows and works to inspire my digital art.

Recently I found a local Garden Center that offers a once-a-month class on Acrylic painting. My first class in March was so much fun that when I heard there was another class in April with a classic Texas Hill Country scene of Bluebonnets, I had to go!

I’ve learned so much from taking these classes and plan on doing as many as possible. Not to mention these classes are located in the most beautiful Texas Landscape and Garden center.

My 2nd painting class at Spring Creek Garden Center in Spring Branch Texas.

This week I wanted to take the opportunity to expand on the lessons I learned in my acrylic art class. Though I’m not sure how my neurodivergent brain got from Acrylics to Bob Ross and Oil Painting. However it happened, the mystery of how my brain works lead me to an amazing set of Procreate Brushes that I think will help you take your digital art to a whole new level.

Digital Painting using Bob Ross Inspired Brush Set

When reviewing the Bob Ross Inspired Brush Set I attempted to follow a full Bob Ross video on YouTube but let’s just say that not everything Bob Ross paints, will translate over to digital art. (In other words…it was a hot mess.) I’ll save your eyes the pain of seeing my hot mess…YIKES!

However, I have to admit that finding my own creativity with these brushes has paid off in a few other pieces that I am thrilled with.

As you can see in the images from the brush creator, the fluffy happy clouds brush is one of my favorites for getting amazing organic shapes and texture. As well, the Split Bristle brushes and the Palette Knife brushes are very versatile to get a ton of texture into your digital art.

The one comment I made after my acrylic painting class was that there was just no way to get that same great texture in the digital medium as in traditional art…however, these brushes definitely come as close as possible.

If you want to see these brushes in action. Follow me on TikTok and Instagram to see how these brushes work in creating your own Bob inspired pieces…and I would especially love to see you make your own Bob Ross inspired piece based off of his videos.
